Electoral Commission

Overview 

The Electoral Commission is a statutory body established to oversee and manage electoral processes for GRASAG-KNUST. The Commission is chaired by the Electoral Commissioner, who is appointed by the President in consultation with the Executive Council and with the prior approval of the Senate.

The Commission also includes two Deputy Commissioners and two additional members representing the Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) and Weekend Class, all of whom are appointed following the same process. Furthermore, representatives from each IDL center may be appointed by the President in consultation with the Executive Council, with the implementation of this provision based on the association’s evolving needs.

This Commission ensures the integrity, transparency, and efficiency of all electoral activities, upholding the democratic principles of the association.

Responsibilities 

  • The Commission conducts and supervises all elections and referenda of GRASAG -KNUST.
  • The Commission in consultation with UITS compiles the register of voters and revises it at such periods as may be determined by law.
  • The Commission educates the people on the electoral process and its purpose.
  • The Commission is responsible for the provision of a platform for all members to interact with candidates in GRASAG elections.
  • The Commission in consultation with the Vetting Committee declares the Vetting results with the marks obtained by each candidate within seventy-two (72) hours after the vetting has taken place and within twenty-four (24) hours after the receipt of the confidential vetting report.
